Is service as important as the food? Billy Hundreds Southend

posted in: EATING OUT 0

We have all been there I believe. Snotty waiters, impatient staff, a whiff of condescension in supposed classy establishments. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve witnessed simply awful behaviour towards waiting staff, usually by some entitled twit who hides their insecurities by posturing loudly.
I bring this up because I was incredibly impressed by the welcome and the outstanding service throughout our meal at Billy Hundreds, a bijou restaurant serving fish and tapas in Southend.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the place itself, also very well appointed. A view of the sea is always a pleasant addition.
Faye and Connie were our servers and made a huge contribution to our enjoyment of the evening. Would it were every time I ate out.
The food was good, especially the fish taco and the quesadilla de espinacas. The drinks list goes on for a mile and if you like Rose wine then I would recommend the Rioja rather than the ubiquitous Pinot Grigio blush.
I would have liked to see a more ambitious wine list, but that’s just a small point.
It’s also open for breakfast, the menu of which looks inviting.
As it only has a few tables, booking beforehand is a must.
