Hungarian Goulash
I’ve heard a lot about Minkies, a rather good looking cafe in Kensal rise. It has a reassuringly small menu and the kitchen is on display for everyone to see the goings on. Now I love a heart warming stew in these dark and cold days so I opted for the special, a lovely looking Hungarian goulash which came with rice, green beans and a Greek salad. Rather an odd combination but I love salad with everything in whatever style it comes.
Damned good it was too. A very spicy stew that was perfectly cooked and beautifully flavoured, accompanied by fluffy basmati rice, crunchy beans and a spankingly fresh salad that had just the perfect amount of vinaigrette on it.
The service was fast, the atmosphere lovely and it was clearly a place where regulars pack the cafe. It’s not rocket science but it goes to show that less is more. Go before seeing a film at the Lexi on a Saturday afternoon. Top plan.
