It’s been a rather grim experience of late when asking for a bill in a restaurant and these days I rarely venture into a chain for the obvious reasons; loss of quality, poor portion size, unimaginative fare and the constant attempts at upselling leave me ice cold with a feeling that you’ve been legally burgled.
I am, however, very pleased to write about The Giggling squid in Windsor, a very charming place with even more charming waiting staff, located next to the theatre.
The rather inviting menu includes small plates for sharing at the very affordable price of around £7 per dish. We chose the duck spring rolls, Samui zingy prawns, chicken satay and the pepper pork belly.
Visually very pretty, each dish had distinctive but subtle flavours running through them and the quality of the meat and the seafood was very evident. Our personal favourite were the prawns which delivered a delicious, fresh zing.
Not to be unfair, the other plates came in a very close second. Succulent, marinated chicken was satisfyingly dunked into a lovely peanut sauce, the duck spring rolls were wrapped in a gorgeous Thai pastry and the pork belly was delightfully sweet and sticky.
Add very pleasant service to the above and you come away with that rare feeling of having your bellies very well minded indeed.
